400 people, including a boy of 12, were injured last week when riot police used water canon and teargas on peaceful protestors in Stuttgart’s main park .

Over the weekend construction workers erected a 10 foot steel fence around the building site which is rapidly becoming a symbol of the loss of democracy in Germany as federal and state parliaments become captive to corporate interests.

10,000 signatures are needed to apply for the Baden-Württemberg state parliament to be dissolved under article 43 of the region’s constitution.  A tenth of the population or circa 1.3 million people are required to sign a petition allowing government to be dissolved and new elections to be held. Protestors hope to collect signatures during this evening’s demonstration. Read more of this post
